Idea: Implement CO2 sensors onto commercialize buildings to track how much CO2 they release in the air.

Why?: Help Vizag reach its 2030 emission goals of reducing C02 by 30% and to improve the overall air quality in India.

How?

  • Pilot Program
    • Government reaches out to all industries and asks them to purchase sensors at break even cost
    • In exchange for implementing the sensors, companies get an “ecosense” sticker to put on products marketing their “green“ status
    • Purpose of pilot program: To verify that data collection is accurate and data is useful
  • Long Term Strategy:
  • Government mandated implementation of sensors on all commercial businesses
    • various industries
  • Utilize data collected for the following:
    • Provide citizens with analytics and comparison of various companies’ emissions within industries so they can make the most informed purchasing choice
      • They will access this information from the dashboard
    • Government will use data to implement a Cap and Trade program
      • They will monitor company’s performances through sensor data and collect fines if they are not hitting their goals
    • Government will use this data to determine optimal location for solar panels
      • By choosing locations of solar panels wisely, you can maximize production and minimize cost, as less panels are required to meet the demand
    • Provide Companies with “benchmarking data”
      • By knowing their competitors’ emission data, companies will be incentivized to lower their emissions if they are higher than the average
        • Benchmarking is a proven method of lowering emissions and energy
      • Business Model:
        • Pilot Program – Selling Sensors
        • Long Term: Cap and Trade, Photo-sensor Solar Panel, Selling Ad Space

Future Tasks that will be researched in the upcoming week:

  • Further develop business model showing the estimated cost, projected revenue, and forecasted demand
  • Prototype – Design/buy a sensor that can be used in India

Cap and Trade case study to show that this is successful in developing countries
