Today began early morning with a visit to the Controller’s Cabinet. We heard presentations from various civic leaders on government initiatives taken to improve water supply, water quality, telecommunication access, and many others.

Each group talked to their respective civic leader to gain further insight about their project. The Telecommunications group talked to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL), a leading Telecommunications company in Visakhapatnam, and discussed the projects they were undertaking to improve access and quality for connectivity. The Safety & Security group talked to a few delegates from the Police Department on how to improve Vizag’s safety and security.

After spending a productive and interactive morning at the Controller’s Cabinet learning about each sector (Safety & Security, Education & Entertainment, Food & Water, Telecommunications, Energy & Pollution, Housing & Transportation), each group  continued their research and exploration within their respective fields.

The Food & Water group went to a local food market, Safety & Security group met with the Police Department where they presented their technology to the Office of Commissioner, which later resulted in the signing of an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between AdViz, the Safety & Security team, and the Police Department of Visakhapatnam. An MOU is the first stage of a formal contract and is far more formal than a handshake—this was an important moment for our Safety & Security team.

The Education & Entertainment group met with Dr. Prasad, Director Personnel of Vizag Steel. They discussed and pitched their idea, which led to Dr. Prasad proposing an MOU between UC Berkeley and Vizag Steel, strengthening efforts in making Vizag a smart city by working together to empower students.

As the day comes to an end, we are excited to see what awaits for us tomorrow – a visit to a local village!
