The telecommunications group made significant progress this week. We have a strong understanding of our project goals and the steps to get there. On Tuesday, Sam drove to Palo Alto and picked up the SigFox equipment. Param was very helpful in teaching us how to use the equipment for our particular project. The engineers (Nate, Woody, and Sanjeev) were set up with usernames in the SigFox network. The next day our group met to turn on the SigFox equipment and finalize our midterm presentation. The equipment turned on but did not receive the sensor information-we are still working on this issue. Our major goal of this week was creating a focused and concise midterm presentation. The biggest obstacle of the presentation was a clear message throughout all the slides. Nate, Woody, and Sanjeev were helpful in overcoming this issue with their technical experience.

On Thursday we presented at the Double Tree Hotel to a panel of judges. A major strength in the presentation was how we divided up the slides between technical and non-technical group members. The technical slides were dedicated to the engineers, and business/background slides to the other group members. Our presentation was successful because each presenter was able to well articulate there given information. A consistent critique among the judges was to better explain SigFox. We need to have a reason for using SigFox as our proof of concept over other sensor software.

Goals of the week (10/25/15)

  • Fix receiver issue with SigFox
  • Create a better argument for using SigFox as proof of concept
